Proyecto REDUCE

Reducing bycatch of threatened marine megafauna in the East Central Atlantic

REDUCE epitomizes the commitment of partner institutions to interdisciplinary research towards reduction of megafauna bycatch. It counts on stakeholder collaboration to help address this critical challenge in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries management. At its core, REDUCE endeavours to facilitate stakeholder efforts to reduce bycatch of marine megafauna in the Eastern Central Atlantic Ocean while informing evidence-based policy decisions. Through the integration of cutting-edge scientific methodologies and robust data analysis, REDUCE seeks to provide actionable insights to safeguard marine biodiversity and promote responsible fisheries practices.

The official project start was the 1st of January 2024 and it will be running for four years since then. This will be the first in-person meeting of the partnership after four months of intense collaboration to set the basic elements for the planned research and development activities. Forty-three delegates representing the partnership and some of the key stakeholder organisations will spend three days sharing knowledge, informing their peers on recent progress and collaboratively  planning for the next project period.
